Allelopathic Effect of Amaranthus Viridis.L Fresh Leaves on Chickpea Seeds Under in Vivo Condition

Sheeba Menon, Janki Thakker

Abstract

Amaranthus viridis.L is a weed and its fresh leaves were collected from Charotar University of Science and technology campus. After cleaning the leaves were separated and taken for study purpose. One gram of fresh leaves was initially crushed to remove carotenoids. Then other one gram of fresh leaves was taken. Both types of fresh leaves along with control were considered for the experiment. Ten Chick pea (Cicer arientinum.L) seeds each were soaked in tap water; concentrations prepared in Amaranthus fresh leaves without carotenoids and Amaranthus fresh leaves respectively. The above conditions were taken and Chick pea seeds were coated by soaking for one, five, ten, fifteen, twenty and twenty five hours. The coated Chick pea seeds were transferred to pots (in vivo condition). These seeds were allowed to grow for fifteen days by pouring water regularly. On the sixteenth day the plantlets were sacrificed and root length, root hairs, shoot length, branches and number of leaflets were calculated. The leaflets of newly grown Chick pea plantlets were subjected for Biochemical assays. The Biochemical analysis was carried out for the respiratory enzyme activity and Peroxidase, Phenyl ammonia lyase and Poly phenol oxidase was estimated. The data was analysed using Statistical analysis.
