Abstract

In recent years, the alternate source of energy has gained significant focus across the globe as the emission of greenhouse gases has contributed to global warming ominously. Being pivotal in economic development, the aviation industry is getting attention to contributing to greenhouse gas emissions worldwide. The airport’s carbon footprint can be lowered by replacing the traditional energy supply with renewable power. The enormous compulsory spaces surrounding runways may be utilized for solar plants. The same renewable energy can power the instruments installed for airport’s communication, surveillance, and navigation systems. One of the important instrument systems used at such an airport is the renewal energy-powered instrument landing system (REPILS). The present research analyses the cause, detection, and effects of three different fake REPILS signals. The first one is due to two landing system installations at the airport. The second fake signal may be generated using software-defined radio. It may be transmitted as a powerful signal to dominate the actual transmission. Finally, the last fake signal combines with a portion of the valid one, causing a variation in the correct approach path. Their detection and effects and securing techniques for arriving aircraft have been discussed.
