Review of Nanoparticle Synthesis from Coconut Waste and Their Applications

Ishika Gupta, Drishti Dhal, Surya Prakash DV

According to the literature survey, the creation of nanoparticles from biodegradable wastes is a method for lowering and recycling the amount of garbage that harms our ecosystem. In the instance of the coconut fruit, the interior white pulp and its water are consumed or used in the production of various products, such as coconut oil, while the entire shell fiber is discarded as waste. Coconut shell extract has been shown to have antifungal and antioxidant properties against pathogenic cutaneous mycosis. Traditional nanoparticle synthesis techniques like the top-down method, which relied on carcinogenic chemicals and caused contaminants to accumulate in the environment, were employed to create nanosized materials. The AgNPs, ZnO NPs, and Silica nanoparticles were prepared by using coconut shell extract, and the conditions were optimized. The manufactured coconut fiber nanomaterials can be used as natural nanofillers for the reassurance of polymers and materials for environmentally friendly production of naturally particle-reinforced nanocomposites and nanoparticle-carburization to stiffen the surface of materials for wear resistance applications.
