A Study of the Rainfall Drop-Size Distribution at Umiam using Thies Clima Laser Precipitation Monitor from May to October, 2017

Anjan Debnath

Abstract

Rainfall monitoring has been going on at NESAC, Umiam from February 2016 onwards under the ISRO-ONERA-CNES joint Ka-Band Propagation Experiment. SAC, Ahmedabad has provided NESAC with a Laser Precipitation Monitor to replace its old impact type Disdrometer which is not working anymore. After its installation at NESAC in May 2017, it is giving continuous data. With the LPM data, a drop size distribution study has been done for the tropical very high rainfall area of Umiam (Average annual rainfall of more than 3000 mm) for the monsoon season of 2017. Data till October 2017 has been presented here.
