Abstract

The present study depicts an integrated approach of Geospatial techniques like Remote Sensing (RS) and Geographical Information System (GIS) for assessment of Land Use Land Cover changing aspects of Narpala Mandal of Anantapur district, AP, India. The temporal data of two different years of Landsat imagery of 2008 and 2018 were acquired by USGS Earth Explorer and Land use Land cover changes in the Narpala mandal for 2008 and 2018 over a period of one decade has been mapped. Supervised classification techniques of ERDAS imagine 2014 software is adopted for the present study. The study area is classified into five categories like Water bodies, Forest cover, Vegetation, Built-up land and Fallow land, on the basis of geographical conditions, field study and Remote Sensing data. The results reveals that during the last decade, built-up land has been increased about 10.28% (i.e., 27.64 km2), while area under other categories such as water body, forest cover, vegetation and fallow land has decreased about 0.19% (i.e., 0.49 km2), 9.39% (i.e., 25.2 km2), 0.45% (i.e., 1.22 km2) and 0.26% (i.e., 27.64 km2). Rapid urbanization caused depletion of forest cover in the study area.
