Biosynthesis, Characterization and Antibacterial Studies of Silver Nanoparticles from Tamil Nadu Major Crop Anacardium occidentale

Abstract


Recent studies have shown that Silver Nanoparticles have physical, optical and catalytic properties. Present work involves the eco-friendly and reproducible synthesis of Silver Nanoparticles from the Anacardium occidentale leaves extract. The synthesized silver Nanoparticle from 1 mM AgNO3 solution through the leaf extract were characterizing was monitored using Ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) spectrophotometer, Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDX), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infra-red spectroscopy (FT-IR).Scanning electron microscopy(SEM) revealed the spherical structure of Nanoparticles and the particle size was found to be in between range from 64.63 to 76.38nm. The XRD pattern showed the characteristic Bragg peaks of (111), (200), (220), (311) and (311) of the face center cubic (FCC) silver Nanoparticles and confirmed that these Nanoparticles are crystalline in nature. Chemical groups studied using FT-IR analysis. Further work involved antimicrobial activity on Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis and respective zone of inhibition 2.2 and 2.9 was analysed. The results indicate that the silver nanoparticles produced from the extract are stable and exhibit various pharmaceutical applications.
