Finite Element Simulation Analysis of Concrete Arch dams: A Review

The loads on the arch dam and the physical properties of materials of the dam and the bedrock are undefined, and can be designated with random variable. Due to the huge volume, the complex structure of the dam and excessive random variable, the static analysis of the dam is tough. The dam is a higher order statically unspecified structure, and the variation of the temperature obviously marks the stress and displacement of the structure, hence, it is very important to deliberate the randomness of the temperature change load in the static analysis of arch dam. Concrete arch dam is a combined hydraulic structure, consuming finite element method threshold whistle singles concrete arch dam reservoir finite element analysis to compute the arch in normal operation phase maximum stress and deformation. Arch dams are designed and constructed to withstand the forces of nature that may be expected to occur over the life of the dam.
The prior research and present investigation on concrete arch dam reveals that material behavior of arch dam is well known but the geological conditions cannot be predicted and are complex too. Concrete arch dams have a good overload capability and safety records but the dam structure has always been troubled by cracking, deflection, and stresses and strains beyond the acceptable limits which lead to failure issues as other engineering structure. The finite element approach is widely used for the analysis and design of complicated structures like concrete arch dams. This paper presents the review of the researches carried out at various levels focusing mainly on finite element analysis.
