Synergistic Approach to Exhaust Gas Treatment: A ‘One Stack’ Solution

Taking cue from global changes, humankind is always in a race against time to come up with pertinent technologies that would cater to their ever-evolving requirements. As we magnify into the highprecision kinetic models of the current exhaust gas systems deployed onboard ships, we evaluate the substantial presence of sulfur oxides, nitrogen oxides, carbon dioxide, particulate matter, and other harmful pollutants. Releasing these gases to the atmosphere, untreated, can have a plethora of implications that can be categorized under technical, economical, and environmental heads. Through this paper, we propose an integrated versatile exhaust gas treatment system that is designed to target specific pollutants in a sequential process. In the initial segment of the paper, we try to elaborate on the methodologies proposed for the step-by-step treatment of CO2, Sox, and NOx present in the flue gas. Thereafter, in the latter segment of the paper, we run an economic analysis to check the feasibility of installing the integration of these subsystems onboard a vessel.References
