Abstract

The concept of high rise building is not new, at least for the last few decades we are building higher and faster into the skyline. The high rise buildings are prone to high lateral loads in the form of wind and seismic loads. These loads become more critical with the increase in height of the structure, to tackle these lateral forces, lateral load resisting systems are developed consisting of not only vertical and horizontal members but also diagonal members. These diagonal members are supposed to greatly influence the lateral load resisting capacity of the structure. The combination of these frame members different patterns of these systems are made namely diagrid, Hexagrid, Pentagrid and Octagrid systems. All these systems do the same job of resisting lateral loads but these vary in their material quantity and ease of construction. Also, different types of building configuration may perform better with different types of these systems. The analysis and design software are used to find the best alternative to make the most economical and optimal use in the structure.
