Abstract

An intervention performed on an oil or gas well to increase production by improving the flow of hydrocarbons from the reservoir into the well bore is well stimulation. The improvements in completion treatmenttechniques like Well stimulation have impacted recovery rates of hydrocarbons such that there is a possibility to pull tens of millions of barrels of oil out of a well, all whilekeeping that well online for 20 years. To perform such kind of precise works and to apply fracturing techniques vessel should remain in fixed position until the operation is completed. Hence, Dynamic position systems plays an important role while performing well stimulation activity. This review paper aims at discussing the advantages of having DP class 3 for well stimulation vessels when compared to existing DP class 2 possibility and analysis of failure of DP class 2 capability WSVS.
