Technology-Based Interventions for Diabetes Self-Management: A Review of Mobile Apps, wearable Devices, and Telemedicine Solution

Zaid Khan, Naveen Sajeev

Abstract

This comprehensive review delves into the transformative impact of technological innovations on diabetes management. From historical insights to cutting-edge developments, we explore the evolution of diabetes care through wireless sensors, smart devices, AI-driven solutions, and telemedicine. Investigating sensor-augmented pump systems, biosensor-based glucose monitoring, smart pens, and telemedicine solutions, we uncover their efficacy in enhancing patient self-management and healthcare accessibility. Furthermore, the convergence of machine learning, data mining, and artificial intelligence with medical science promises to reshape diabetes care paradigms. We highlight the potential of novel technologies, ranging from continuous glucose monitors to AI-driven diagnostic tools, in revolutionizing the monitoring, treatment, and overall well-being of individuals with diabetes. This review provides valuable insights for healthcare professionals and researchers, offering a forward-looking perspective on the exciting prospects that lie ahead in diabetes management.
