Review of Nishakathakadi—An Ayurvedic Formulation of Turmeric etc. in Diabetes

The present abstract was aimed to discuss the Sahasrayoga portion on “Kashaya Prakaran,” which contains a reference to “Nishakathakadi Yoga” as a therapy for “Prameha” (diabetes). This particular combination of Tikta, Katu, and Kashaya Rasa, along with Katu Vipaka, Laghu, Ruksha, and Tikshna Guna Pradhana Aushadhi, is suggested to be effective in differentiating the etiology of “Madhumeha” (diabetes). The Nishakathakadi yoga formulation also exhibits Rasayana (rejuvenating), Deepana (digestive stimulant), and Pachana (digestive) properties. The present study was designed to further explore the extensive usage of “Nishakathakadi Yoga” in treating “Madhumeha” (diabetes) by considering all relevant factors. The aim of the present study was to provide a comprehensive understanding of the therapeutic potential of Nishakathakadi yoga in managing diabetes. The present study was aimed to elucidate the unique qualities of Nishakathakadi formulation and its relevance in diabetes treatment by examining the specific components of this formulation, such as the presence of Tikta, Katu, and Kashaya Rasa (bitter, pungent, and astringent tastes), as well as its Katu Vipaka (pungent metabolic effect) and the predominance of Laghu, Ruksha, and Tikshna Guna (light, dry, and sharp qualities). Furthermore, the present study explored the Rasayana property of Nishakathakadi yoga, which indicated its potential for rejuvenating the body and improving overall health. The Deepana and Pachana properties of Nishakathakadi formulation, which stimulate digestion and enhance metabolic processes, respectively, were also investigated to determine their role in managing diabetes. By conducting the present study, we seek to shed light on the efficacy and mechanisms of action of Nishakathakadi yoga in the context of diabetes treatment. The findings will contribute to a better understanding of traditional medicinal practices and their potential integration into contemporary healthcare approaches for managing diabetes.
