Adsorption of Congo Red Dye by Using Poly(2-Chloroaniline-co-2-Methoxyaniline)

P. Lakshmi, S. Jhancy Mary

Abstract

ABSTRACT

The removal of this dye from the industry waste water is environmentally significant. In the present work the adsorbent, poly(2-chloroaniline-co-2-methoxyaniline) was employed to remove congo red dye from water. Batch experiments were conducted to study the effects of parameters such as concentration, contact time, amount of the adsorbent dose and pH. The result showed that the dye was removed when pH = 7.5-8 and contact time is 60 minutes and the amount of adsorbent is 0.05g.  The Langmuir, Freundlich, Tempkin and Dubinin- Raduskovich adsorption isotherm models were studied and the experimental results were analysed. Batch kinetic data were analysed using pseudo-first and pseudo-second order kinetic models. The adsorption kinetic model was well –fitted by a pseudo - second- order kinetic equation.
