Performance Enhancement of Vapour Compression Refrigeration System by Using Solar Thermoelectric Sub-Cooler
Abstract
Abstract
Refrigeration plays a crucial role in many aspects of human life, due to energy crisis it is essential to improve the performance of a refrigerator for given inputs and need to satisfy the environmental challenges with respect to ozone depletion and global warming, R-134a as a refrigerant has a unique thermal characteristics such as low viscosity, good heat transfer coefficients, non-toxic, non-corrosive and environmental benefits in comparison with conventional refrigerants. A naval integration of R-134a cycle with thermoelectric modules placing before expansion valve as sub-cooler which works on the principle of peltier effect is used to sub-cool the refrigerant before expansion valve where solar panel produces power from solar radiation which is considerable amount of required power input to the sub-cooler. Some important parameters of the proposed system are investigated. A comparison is carried out between the proposed systems with simple R134a refrigeration system indicating that the proposed configuration improves the coefficient of performance about 30.76% and also observed that the new configuration performance increases gradually by increase in power input to the sub-cooler for sub-cooling the refrigerant.
