Thermal Efficiency of return flow solar air heater

Vikram Singh, Abhishek Kumar Goel

Abstract

In this work the thermal efficiency of a return flow SAH having roughened absorber in the form of V shaped ribs is determined. The effect of roughness parameters like angle of attack (α), and relative roughness height (e/D) and operating parameters like intensity of solar radiation (I) and mass flow rate (m) are deeply examined. Analytical approach while assuming the steady state condition was used to inspect the performance. Thermal efficiency is found to increase while increasing the mass flow rate, it is observed that at relative roughness height e/D=0.036, angle of attack α=600 maximum enhancement is achieved.
