Energy Security of India through CIS Hydrocarbon Resources

Rohit Nayek, Atul Rawat, Ranjan Saxena

Abstract

The commonwealth of independent states is a regional organization formed during the breakup of the Soviet Union. Nine out of the 15 former Soviet Republics are member states, and two are associate members (Ukraine and Turkmenistan). The quantum of hydrocarbon resources is enormous and it can satisfy the demand of hydrocarbon resources in India to a great extent. The IEA defines energy security as the uninterrupted availability of energy sources at an affordable price. Energy security has many aspects: long-term energy security mainly deals with timely investments to supply energy in line with economic developments and environmental needs. On the other hand, short-term energy security focuses on the ability of the energy system to react promptly to sudden changes in the supply-demand balance.
Keywords: Quantum, hydrocarbons, economic development, energy
