Abstract

Introduction: In blood bank, as per standard guidelines for quality assurance, 1% of total number of FFP (Fresh Frozen Plasma) or 4 units of FFP per month are analysed for two coagulation factors, i.e., Factor VIII and Fibrinogen. These activities ensure reduction of risk and the availability of high quality blood and blood components to patients. Material and Methods: The data was collected from Smt. S. R. Mehta & Kikabhai Blood Bank, Sion, Mumbai, from the period of 01st January 2019 to 31st August 2019. During this time frame, 1394 samples were processed. From these samples, 419 FFP were analysed for Fibrinogen and Factor VIII on ECL 760 fully automated random-access coagulation analyzer. Results: FFP samples were tested for Factor VIII and Fibrinogen. All samples have shown the Factor VIII level above 1.0 IU/ml and 100% samples had content Fibrinogen more than 200 mg/dl. Conclusion: It concluded that quality assurance activity of FFP performed at Blood Bank meets the international standards. The quality assurance activity on a regular basis helps to keep up the working standards and any deficiency can be checked and curtailed.
