Investigating Mechanism of Lexical Retrieval in Children by employing structural priming

Abstract


Lexical access is the retrieval of the most appropriate word from the lexicon. Lexical access can be assessed by employing several tasks including priming task. The aim of the present study was to explore the mechanism of lexical activation for retrieving sentences. The participants included children in the age range of 11–14 years. The study was carried out in Kannada and ANT Kannada stimulus was used to evoke retrieval. Stimulus was presented through DMDX. Stimulus was preceded by unrelated and related stimuli (related verb and nouns phrases). The mean vocal reaction time was better for unrelated condition followed by related verb and related noun condition while accuracy scores also was better unrelated condition. The results reflected that the related nouns and verbs would have exhibited inhibition owing to which reaction time would be more and accuracy would be less.
