Abstract

Rare earth ion induced ZnO has improved electrical and optical properties that can find application in electronic and optoelectronic devices. When it is synthesised in nano regime the properties become much more useful for light emitting diodes and laser diodes. Here, stoichiometric CeO2:ZnO composite nanosized powder is synthesized by combustion method. XRD results reveal the formation of CeO2:ZnO composite nanopowders. Diffuse reflectance spectra reveal that there is an increment in band gap of Ce mixed samples, due to the crystallite size effect. Characteristic emission from cerium ion is identified and the influence of Ce concentration and annealing temperature on photo luminescence properties is systematically discussed.
