Abstract

Land use and land cover is an important element in understanding the interaction of human activities with environment and thus it is necessary to assess changes. The study describes the changes in land use and land cover dynamics in Devghar district of Jharkhand over a period of 5 years (2005–06 to 2011–12) using IRS P-6, LISS-III, multi-temporal satellite images and GIS to monitor changes in the study area. Ground truth observations were also done to improve the accuracy of classification. It was an integrated approach of remote sensing, geographical information system and limited ground truth to analyze the land use/land cover of Devghar district of Jharkhand state. Finally land use/land cover categorized into 30 categories of the study area of Devghar district.
