Abstract

Are they at risk?Increasing dependency on technology and web based communication has given rise for the cyber security threat, especially in oil and gas sector. Well oil and gas sector, well known for not excepting the technology easily, still known according to the repository of industrial security. Most targeted industry worldwide is petroleum sector.Petroleum company, the face of a hot shot boy sector,is facing significant threat of cybercrime, which may create disaster in every sector of petroleum significantly such as in hydrocarbon installation terrorism which can cause plant shutdown resulting in the jeopardy and interruption of utilities, with the oil and gas sector being the country’s economic stabilization responsibility.Oil and gas sector is fueling every aspect of our daily life, the protection of this significant critical infra was never a critical task, but as technology advancement came into existence, now cyber security has become a need of the hour for the oil and gas sector.The cyber threat cannot be under estimated. We cannot afford to do so because the consequences of attacks on the operations and system may, that powers are lifestyle, would be affected drastically.What are the consequences?Plant shutdown, utilities interruption, production interruption/disruption, energy cut, undetected spills, rig failure/malfunction etc.
